Life has been gradually returning to normalcy in most parts of the city. But in many pockets people still stand crushed by the floods and their ensuing havoc. The devastation has thrown many women and children into a state of shock. My team and I wanted to play a small role in the relief programmes. Since I was already working for a specific population, it occurred to me that I could play a role in the same group.

With the threat of disease and infection at large, it is important that we take necessary measures to maintain sanitation. In line with the current situation, we have been conducting hygiene workshops for women and children to ensure good health.

We have also been putting together and distributing hygiene kits for the affected citizens of Chennai. Working with women and children belonging to the lower-income group, from across the city, my team and I have been stressing on the need for hygienic practices during the aftermath of floods. We conducted a hygiene workshop and distributed hygiene kits with dettol, water purifying tablets, soaps, tooth paste and brush, mosquito repellent, antiseptic cream, Horlicks for those living in Ramavaram.

Our workshops have been planned at Washermanpet on Friday.
