State govt sanctions 50 crore for restoration of damaged roads
The State government has sanctioned Rs 50 crore to take up immediate restoration of roads in the state which have been damaged due to floods

An amount of Rs 12 crore each has been allocated to Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur and Cuddalore districts, Rs.6 crore for Chennai roads and Rs 8 crore to eight other districts to take up the urgent repair works.Â
An official statement here on Monday said, necessary Government orders stipulating the procedures to carry out the immediate restorations have also been issued.Â
The temporary restoration road work will be taken up on a war-footing and will be completed within 30 days. The restoration works of 4 major damaged structures/bridges (Tiruttani Nagalapuram, Kanagammachathiram, Thakkolam, Korattur Thinnanur Periyapalayam and Kancheepuram Vandavasi) will be completed within 45 days, the statement said.Â
The restoration work to the damaged brick arch bridge in Poonamallee-Avadi Road is being carried out by providing temporary piped causeway involving about 50 labour and material, the statement said, adding that around 1 Lakh people will be benefitted on completion of the work by Tuesday.Â
The statement further said, the restoration work to the damaged causeway (800m) to Irumbulicheri Village in Kancheepuram district is being carried out on a war-footing and is expected to be completed on Tuesday.Â
Similarly, works of repairing of flood damaged roads was being carried out in Chennai, Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur and Cuddalore districts and so far 570 km has been temporarily restored by utilising the services of a special team of 41 assistant engineers, 69 road inspectors and 850 of mazdoors in addition to regular staff of the Highways Department.
