“My grandfather helped a lot of students when they lost their certificates in a fire 30 years ago. My mother who saw this and also as she knew how difficult it was to get a certificate, started helping students who missed their certificates to fill up the necessary form to get their certificate again,” she said. Justice Jayanthi, holds five MA degrees, an MBAin addition to a Masters in Law and two PhDs. The judge had on Dec 2 posted on her Facebook page that any rain affected victim who needed help could contact her. She received over 1,000 phone calls from various places in India and abroad, who sought help to get their missing certificates.

“Several people from Chennai who live in foreign countries lost their certificates in the Chennai flood. Looking at my mother’s FB post they contacted her, she immediately approached the education department. The officials provided us with the format to get the certificates. We photocopied it and started filling it up. We have completed application forms for over 200 people.” Maffi Devadoss said.
