Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa has ordered remedial measures to ensure the problems faced by flood victims are reduced. As per a press release, TNEB consumers in the flood affected Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kanchipuram and Cuddalore can pay their current power bills on or before January 31, next year without any fine, it said and added that conservancy workers now clearing accumulated flood related garbage would be given face masks, gloves and rain coats in addition to vaccines to ensure their continued good health.

As a preventive measure, households would be provided half a kilo of bleaching powder and 20 chlorine tablets to purify drinking water. A total of 20 tonnes of bleaching powder and 1 crore chlorine tablets would be disbursed by local bodies, the release said. The 1105 medical camps would be continued.

The farm fresh produce outlets would be stocked with 100 tonnes of potatoes and 75 tonnes of onions procured from other states to check prices. Potato would be priced at Rs 23 a kilo as against Rs 45 in the open market.

The postponement of the half yearly exams to January was applicable to all government, govt- aided and private schools, The directorate of school education had been ordered to issue the circular to all schools immediately.
