In his address on All India Radio and Doordarshan, K Rosaiah, the Governor of Tamil Nadu, said “I deem it a privilege to address you on the on occasion of Armed Forces Flag Day Celebrations.”
“We commemorate the Armed Forces Flag Day every year on December 7. On this day let us recall the selfless sacrifices made by the Armed Forces Personnel and salute the Valiant dead and the brave Veterans. This is an occasion to remember the dedicated services rendered by the Armed Forces in protecting and safeguarding our motherland from enemies.” Dr Rosaiah said.
“Armed Forces Personnel are the shining examples of national integration. They are from various regions, speaking different languages and professing various religious faiths. They personify our nation’s determination to protect our territory, integrity and sovereignty. They have braved every inclement weather and showcased their indomitable spirit in maintaining unrelenting vigil.”
The Governor also said that the Armed Forces’ patriotism, willpower, resoluteness, determination and devotion to serve the nation are assets to us. “The Indian Armed Forces are one of the best in the world. We must propagate the heroic accounts of brave acts and deeds of the Armed Forces Personnel to the younger generation. The youth of our nation should draw inspiration from the Defence Service personnel.”
Dr Rosaiah added, “It is the duty of the Nation and the citizens of this great country to ensure the welfare and happiness of Ex-servicemen and their families at all times. I congratulate the Government of Tamil Nadu for being committed to the welfare of Armed Forces Personnel and Ex-Servicemen. It is a matter of pride to note that Tamil Nadu is a front-runner state in Ex-Servicemen welfare. It provides scholarships, reservation for their children in various courses, offers priority in employment. It also imparts resettlement training and guides in self-employment. I am happy to learn that in Tamil Nadu about 950 children of Ex-Servicemen have secured scholarship under Prime Minister’s Merit Scholarship scheme. Under this scheme a total amount of Rs.2.42 Crore has been received for the academic year 2014-15.”
He said the action taken by the Government of Tamil Nadu to conduct Free preparatory training classes for the youth who are appearing for Army Recruitment Exams is laudable. “I am happy to learn that so far, 3,075 youth have been imparted training at a cost of about Rs.15 Lakh. I am sure this will encourage more and more young people.”
