Narendra Modi sanctions Rs.1000 cr flood relief
Prime minister Narendra Modi sanctioned Rs.1000 crores for flood relief work on Thursday

PM Modi arrived at the Arakonam naval air base INS Rajali from New Delhi from where he travelled to Chennai by a helicopter visiting the flood affected areas in Kanchipuram, Cuddalore, Tiruvallur and Chennai.Â
‘Landing at the navy’s INS Adyar, where he was welcomed by TN governor K. Rosaiah and CM Jayalalithaa. He then had a brief 20 minutes deliberation with the CM, governor and officials including chief secretary K.Gnanasekaran and state government advisor Mrs.Sheila Balakrishnan. The PM started his brief speech talking the first two sentences in Tamil.
Moved by suffering
He stated that he saw with pain the destruction suffered by the people of Tamil Nadu. He added that he would stand with the people of TN. He then announced sanction of Rs.1000 crores which he said was over and above the Rs.940 crores sanctioned for the same purpose earlier. He then left for New Delhi. It may be recalled that CM Jayalalithaa had undertaken an aerial visit of the flood affected areas of Chennai and Tiruvallur, Kanchipuram and Cuddalore districts a day earlier.Â
The PM’s visit was expected to further galvanise officials who are already working on a war footing to combat the ravages of flooding.
