    Tamil Nadu CM J Jayalalithaa on Tuesday reviewed the work undertaken in flood affected areas. In a statement, issued at the secretariat, the CM said that IAS officers were deputed to flood ravaged areas on November 29 itself.

    As part of this work, action was being taken by officials to provide relief to those affected while people staying in low lying areas were moved to safe areas. Also, police, fire and rescue services, state and central disaster relief management personnel and coast guard were ready to shift the affected to safe areas by boats if necessary.

    The affected have been provided with drinking water, food, medical facilities and other necessities, she said and added that orders had been issued to conduct medical camps where necessary and provide Nilavembu Kashayam where ever necessary.

    As the ground floor of the Tambaram Government Hospital was inundated, inpatients were moved to other government hospitals through the 108 ambulance service, she said.

    Due to rain havoc in the districts, half-yearly exams scheduled from December 12 have been scheduled for the first week of January. Ministers have been ordered to offer flood relief work in rain ravaged Chennai, Kanchipuram, Tiruvallur and Cuddalore districts, she said. PWD Minister O. Paneerselvam, Highways Minister Edapadi K. Palanisamy, Dairy Minister V.P. Ramana and Minorities Minister S. Abdul Rahim would oversee relief work in Tiruvallur district, Rural Development Minister S. P. Velumani, Higher Education Minister P. Palaniappan, Transport Minister P. Thangamani and Animal Husbandry Minister T.K.M. Chinnaiah would oversee relief in Kanchipuram district specially Tamabaram and Mudichur areas.
