Indian musician and celebrated prodigy Chitravina N Ravikiran performed at a musical concert held at Padmashri Dr Pa Sivanthi Aditanar Memorial Hall in Poes Garden on Sunday. The renowned Chitravina performer was backed by Sriranjani on vocals.
Ravikiran is credited with creating the concept of “Melharmony,” which is harmony with an emphasis on melodic rules of evolved systems such as the raga system of Indian music. He introduced this award-winning concept during his collaboration with artists of the BBC Philharmonic, at the Millennium Festival, UK in Oct 2000. Earlier this month, Paul R Soglin, Mayor of the city of Madison, Wisconsin USA resolved that Sunday, November 8, 2015 be proclaimed as ‘Melharmony Day’ in the city of Madison and asked all citizens to support and strengthen the city’s cultural programs.
Melharmony inspired concerts with major artistes and discussion among scholars in international conferences including Society for Music Theory Conference, Boston (2005) and Melody, Harmony, Melharmony conference, Houston (2014).
