The central flood damage assessment team plans to visit various rain affected areas in north Chennai including Mogappair, Ambattur, Villivakkam and Sidco nagar and rain damaged areas in neighbouring Tiruvallur district on Saturday.

They will later interact with various department officials after their visit before leaving for New Delhi later in the evening. The team plans to submit its report to the home ministry in a week.

Following CM Jayalalithaa requesting expeditious release of additional funds —PM Narendra Modi released the first instalment of Rs.940 crores for relief work – the team submission of its report anticipates quick release of additional funds.

It may be recalled that the continuous heavy downpour over ten days in many parts of the state left a trail of devastation in its wake, uprooting trees, destroying infrastructure and leaving thousands homeless in addition to the death of more than one hundred people.

The team lead by union joint home secretary TVSN Prasad arrived in Chennai on Thursday and interacted with CM Jayalalithaa who requested them to expedite their report. After interacting with chief secretary Ms. Sheela Balakrishnan, they visited affected areas in Kanchipuram district. The second day, yesterday they visited flood ravaged Cuddalore district and interacted with the affected people.

The final day (Saturday) will be spent visiting parts of north Chennai and Tiruvallur district. The team hopes to return to New Delhi in the evening.
