In order to contain dengue, the state government will have one health worker deployed for 500 households each in the cities to spray mosquito control solution.

The health department has joined hands with the department of local administration to keep dengue and other vector-borne diseases under control. “We have decided to engage one worker for 300- 500 households each in cities and 30 workers for each Panchayat union to carry out anti-dengue measures,” a senior official in the health department told this paper.

These workers will identify the mosquito-breeding sources and spray abate solution. The official said as many as 4,680 hand sprayers, 4070 fogging machines and 241 machines mounted on vehicles have been pressed into service. He also said there is adequate stock of medicines.
 
Allaying fears that dengue is fast spreading in the state, he said it is just a kind of viral fever and only one per cent of dengue-infected patients suffer from dengue haemorrhagic fever or dengue shock syndrome. Medical intervention at the right time is essential, he said appealing to people not to get panicky.

The officer also sought public cooperation to carry out preventive measures and eradicate mosquitoes.
