M Nithish Kumar (21), Art director

I am from Chennai and started working as a freelance art director before completing my college because I wanted to start supporting my family financially. As I need to learn more about different forms of video editing and art direction, I started to attend internships in many studios. People used to insult me when I started my career. It is a highly competitive field so it is not easy to get work being a beginner. It is a social media world and so youngsters are attracted to advancements such as video editing, art direction and photography. But they do not understand how much hard work goes into our work. They often demean my profession and youngsters like me. I have father, mother and sister in my family. It was not easy to convince them when I decided to pursue this field. But they support me now. The equipment I use cost a lot but people expect me to do the work for free or minimum expense. I even suffer from health issues such as back pain and shoulder pain due to prolonged hours of work and lack of sleep. But I still want to be an art director and learn more about my job.
