Sinthiya Anand (23), Stylist

I am the first generation to become a graduate in my family since most of them were mainly into business and education took a back seat. Though I wanted to join a corporate company after completing my graduation, I joined a private organisation. Since my father was into tailoring and exporting clothes to different places, I helped him with the designing aspect by customising the product at a reasonable price for the public to buy online. I noted that people who purchased through retail usually get disheartened on seeing the same kind of clothes being worn by others. At the same time, it is also difficult for the middle class people to afford customised designs. To change this, the concept of customising the products to gain credence, came into my mind. Our business developed after introducing customised designs. But six months ago, my father passed away and the business suffered a huge loss. Since I was into only designing, whereas my father who was an expert in stitching took care of it, I thoroughly missed him and his work. After that, I could not concentrate on the business. Later, I bounced back and started a shop in Perambur. I made my mother to look after the business after teaching her how to deal with the customers. I do not promote my products with paid promotions. I have designed for a couple of celebrities and they have posted their photos on Instagram, which led to an increase in my followers. In future, I would like to expand my business and become a stylist for celebrities.
