A regular visit to one of the Greater Chennai Corporation officials for an ordinary story had ended up with a twist of the tale for this reporter when the disgruntled official threw up a shocking allegation against some of his colleagues.
Interested, this reporter tried to dig deep.  The official, who requested anonymity, claimed that a few of his colleagues had released funds to erring NGOs that were running one of the civic body’s schemes.
Even though the allegations did not take the shape of a report as the source had hoped, it taught the reporter a lesson on the complex governance system and how disgruntled employees compete to ruin each other's career.
Even as the official was explaining the intricacies of his colleagues' misdoings, this reporter was making a list of officials who would have to run from pillar to post to clear their names  in case this official became succesful in maligning them.
But, when this reporter asked the details of the alleged wrong doing so that it could be cross checked with the concerned officials, the official became wary and gave up his pursit.
If only the reporter was a fiction writer, he could have collated all the information from the official into an entertaining inside story on the workings of the civic body.
