CHENNAI: As Siddhi Idnani enters the interview venue to talk about her first release in Tamil, the most-expected Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu, she resembles Sameera Reddy. “Some people tell me I look like Sameera Reddy, some people say I resemble Deepika Padukone and even Soundarya ma’am,” she begins.

The actress has amassed a huge fan base in Tamil ever since she was announced as the heroine of STR’s Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu aka VTK. “Gautham Menon and the director of Patthu Thala, Obeli N Krishna are close friends. When they were in lookout for the female lead for VTK, they asked Sasi sir and I had completed a schedule of Sasi sir’s film Nooru Kodi Vaanavil and was sitting idle in Mumbai as Covid was at its peak in its second wave. It was Sasi sir who recommended me and I was asked to fly down to Chennai,” she tells us.

Siddhi reminisces the first day of shoot and with a laugh she says, “I was asked to audition for a scene at a city hotel, where the film was also being shot. In the evening when we shot for the same scene, I asked Gautham sir doubtfully if I am on board the movie and he said, ‘We have already began shooting your portions’. That is how I realised I am in the movie.” Divulging about her role, she says, “I play a Tamil girl raised in Mumbai, who helps Muthu (played by STR) to cross various hurdles. Also I have dubbed for my role of Paavai, who is a sweet and an innocent girl. Being born and raised in Mumbai, I picked up decent Tamil while shooting for Nooru Kodi Vaanavil. The accent has helped me to dub for VTK.”

Talking about the limelight she has hogged in the recent past, Siddhi says, “I am here after failures. It took me a lot of box-office bombs to get here. So one big film won’t change me as a person. Success and failure are temporary. So, I will always be grounded and stay true to my craft.”
