CHENNAI: Director Va Gowthaman, who delivered a blockbuster in the 90s with Murali-Simran’s Kanave Kalaiyaadhe (1998) is back to direction with his only third film in 24 years. He directed and starred in another hit film titled Magizhchi in 2010. We tell him that his filmography resembles the famous Mahamaham festival that takes place once in 12 years, he laughs and tells DT Next, “I am aware but yes in the last few years, times were quite challenging for people in Tamil Nadu. I came forward and raised my voice for a couple of issues like Jallikattu and Sterlite factory to only be arrested by the police. Now things are fine and I look to direct more films in the next few years.”

His upcoming film, bankrolled by VK Production has been titled Maavera with GV Prakash composing the music with lyrics by Vairamuthu. “The film talks about the roots of Tamil people and their valour. Meanwhile, the audience could also relate to the content,” he says. He reminisces about his tele serial Sandhana Kaadu and says, “The moment GV Prakash heard the script, he was excited and composed a song titled, Pulikodi Engal Kodi, penned by Vairamuthu. I am thankful to both of them who chose to come on board Maaveera,” says the director.

Gowthaman also divulges a little about the storyline and says, “There were several personalities, who were hailed for their bravery and lived around sandalwood forests, cashew forests and touch-me-not tree forests. I have previously documented sandalwood forest in my tele serial. I will be touching upon the subjects of other two forests in my upcoming narrations,”

The filmmaker says that the cast and crew of Maaveera will be made official soon.
