The title and the first look of director CS Amudhan’s film with Vijay Antony was unveiled on Sunday. Produced by Infiniti Film Ventures, the movie is titled Ratham (Blood). The poster had Vijay Antony sporting a dense beard with a bandaged left arm. This is Amudhan’s third film after the Tamizh Padam franchise in his 12-year career. On directing an action thriller after a couple of spoof films that went on to become huge successes, he says, “We have been working on this script for two years. I have been wanting to do something different and not get typecast as a filmmaker.” Amudhan says that Ratham will be apt for the storyline. “It is an action flick and there will be bloodshed in the film but metaphorically, blood plays a central character in the story. Also, we all know Vijay Antony’s fascination for such titles. So we believed that Ratham could do justice to whatever we are about to present to the audience. In fact, Vijay Antony had this title registered even before he knew the story. When discussions happenned, he decided to use the title for this project,” adds the director.
Amudhan says that Ratham will talk about a subject that people get to see everyday but hasn’t been made as a film yet. “The topic that Ratham deals with is something that is relevant. It is in the news almost everyday. However, I am surprised that no one has made a film of it or has addressed it the way we would,” he opens up. The shoot of Ratham is in its second schedule. “We will be completing 70 per cent of the filming in the second schedule before we shift to Kolkata. We are planning to call it a wrap by March and are aiming for a late summer release,” he concludes. Ratham is also co written by Athisha and Karki Bava.
