I deleted food delivery apps from my phone to stay fit: Simon K King

“Thanks to the lockdown. I have been setting weight reduction goals every time the lockdown was extended,” says Simon with a huge smile. He says that he weighed 128 kilos when the lockdown began. “A music director’s timing are quite erratic and there is no routine that we follow in terms of our lifestyle. I have been ordering food from food delivery apps I have downloaded. I started gaining weight faster than I usually do. It took a while for me to realise that these are the side effects of processed food that I have been consuming,” he opens up.
When the first lockdown was announced, Simon realised that it was high time he shed a few kilos. “Initially, my target was 120 kilos. I started eating healthy and the first thing I did was to delete food delivery apps. Even then I frequently received promotional text messages saying that ‘We Miss You’. I had to call those people and asked them not to send me updates anymore,” he laughs. With combined workout and diet, Simon lost eight kilos. “I didn’t want to stop there.
My workout made me stronger physically and mentally. So when the next lockdown was announced, I set a target of 110 and this time I took the help of my friend Ramnath who is a marathon trainer. He gave functional and interval training workouts and I was able to lose 10 kg again. Now, I have set my target at 100 and I have one more kg to lose. I am sure I will reach my goal of weighing 90 kg soon,” he explains.
Simon says that his breakfast and lunch are normal like anyone else’s. “I eat idlis for breakfast and the lunch my mom makes. I eat my dinner as early as six in the evening — mostly bananas, oranges and grapes. Saturdays are my cheat meal days,” he tells us.
Simon also says that he tried his luck at the gym before lockdown. “I felt a little out of place as the trainers would go easy on me while others were flexible enough for workouts. I was a little insecure and felt inferior as well but trainers did what they could as per their charts,” he says.
On the work front, Simon has Sibi Sathyaraj’s Kabadadhaari and also has collaborated with Andrew Louis yet again after Kolaigaaran.
