Ka Pae Ranasingam explores hardship faced by farmers

Ever since the release of Ka Pae Ranasingam’s teaser, debut director P Virumandi’s phone is going off the hook. “I have been receiving so many congratulatory wishes,” he says to DT Next, sounding excited. His happiness is natural as his dedication in the industry for over two decades has finally paid off as he makes his debut film that stars Vijay Sethupathi and Aishwarya Rajesh.

“I grew up in a small village near Madurai and I have seen several issues faced by farmers. As my father was an actor, it was quite natural for me to become attracted to cinema as well. Having been brought up in a village, I wanted to do a film that portrays the hardship and lives lof farmers. Ka Pae Ranasingam is a reflection of such people,” says Virumandi who adds, “Everyone will find it relatable as I have shown situations that must have affected a person or their friends at one point in life.” On working with Sethupathi and Aishwarya, Virumandi says, “Just like any debutant director, I was scared initially. However, once the filming began and when the stars donned their roles, it became very easy to work. In a few days, we became very close. The actors are very humble and down to earth.” The director also expressed his gratitude to producer Kotapadi J Rajesh of KJR Studios for blessing him with the opportunity to helm the movie.

Virumandi signs off after speaking about a ‘miracle’ that happened during the film shoot. “We shot the movie in villages around Ramanathapuram. Every time we went out to shoot, it wouldn’t rain whereas the nearest town faced heavy rainfall. All of us assumed that our production house was blessed,” the director concludes with a smile.
