A one-man short film made using a smartphone

Split is timely as it is released when many are at home alone owing to the pandemic, just like the character shown in the movie.

“While the plot may look simple, what is interesting is it was shot entirely by myself with no cast or crew,” says Gokulnath, to DT Next. “I have to credit Venkat Prabhu sir who has constantly supported me.” He adds, “After making my previous short film, Continnum, I had shared it with Venkat sir who appreciated it and released it on his YouTube Channel, Black Ticket Company.”

 Speaking about how he filmed Split, Gokulnath says, “I decided to use my smartphone as I have done much shooting with it and I find it quite easy to use. However, it still takes an equal amount of production work required for a high-end camera.” The director said he used a selfie stick and a tripod to capture some scenes in the film and didn’t use any green mat for VFX for the fight sequence among the dual characters. “I shot the entire stretch frame by frame and later edited them together,” he concludes.
