Sources close to actor, however refute it. Superstar Rajinikanth’s Darbar according to the distributors wasn’t a commercially viable venture. This led to a minor tiff between the office-bearers of the directors and the distributors unions over the weekend. T Rajendar, the head of Distributors’ Association of Chennai and Chengalpattu areas, lashed out at director AR Murugadoss and Rajini for not responding to the distributors’ plight. Meanwhile, RK Selvamani, who helms the Directors’ Association, defended Murugadoss and said it is the producer who needs to be accountable and not technicians. Now, the speculation in tinseltown is agog with talks of Rajini reducing his salary by half, which means that the actor will be paid Rs 58 crore for the Siruthai Siva directorial.

A tinseltown source told DT Next, “Rajini’s initial remuneration for the film was Rs 116 crore. However, the producers requested him to bring his salary down by 50 per cent because of the confusion prevailing over Darbar’s revenue.” When contacted, a source close to the Superstar, dismissed these rumours and called them baseless. “Darbar is a profitable venture and people have been trying to tarnish his popularity. Moreover, Rajini sir’s salary for 168th film isn’t Rs 116 crore either and the producers never asked him to cut down his remuneration. We request people to stop spreading such false and negative news around Darbar as well as Rajinikanth’s remuneration,” a source close to the actor told DT Next. Rajinikanth will join the upcoming schedule of his 168th film this week. The film has music by Imman and has Kushbhu Sundar, Prakash Raj, Meena, Nayanthara and Keerthy Suresh in important roles.
