After the expression of interest, the director of the original P Vasu said that the pre-production work of Chandramukhi 2 is complete and the film is all set to go on floors.

Vasu said, “I had already made a sequel to Chandramukhi in Kannada titled Aaptharakshaka. Now, I am ready to make the Tamil version of the sequel. I have already roped in a big star to play the hero in the sequel and a leading banner to bankroll the project. An official announcement will be made soon.”

Murugadoss said that he was initially supposed to do a spinoff to Chandramukhi with Rajini which was later replaced by Darbar. “I wanted to do Chandramukhi 2 that would have featured Rajinikanth in dual roles (psychologist and a king). However, Vasu sir has the story rights and the film’s rights is with Sivaji Productions. It would have been a lot of work in acquiring permissions for the project to have fallen in place. Only then I decided to make Darbar with him,” said Murugadoss.

Meanwhile, Darbar is all set to hit the screens on January 9 and has Nayanthara, Suniel Shetty and Pratheik Babbar in important roles.
