Tamil Nadu Theatre Owners’ Association this week came up with recommendations that suggested that leading K’town stars need to take responsibility for their film’s failures at the box office. In a meeting that took place earlier this week, the office-bearers also decided that the producers should release their films on OTT platforms 100 days after its theatrical release. Another recommendation was that the state government should stop levying 8 per cent local body tax on films. Talking to DT Next, the President of Tamil Nadu Theatre Owners’ Asssociation, Tirupur Subramaniam said, “We have been in talks with producers, who have assured us cooperation from their side. As far as the actor’s salaries and market value is concerned, we haven’t heard from anyone. A few of us who finance Tamil films, will stop investing in leading actors’ projects. If their films bomb at the box office, they need to be accountable for the loss and compensate it in their next project. We will also be holding talks with the state government in the last week of January on the local body tax and we hope to get some relief from it,” he concluded.
