‘The story will make the audience think’

The lead cast of Ashwin Jerome and Gokul Anand along with the director of the film Balaji Vairamuthu visited the DT Next premises as a part of their promotional campaign. The trio has been leaving no stone unturned for people to know about their film. “The audience have opened up to such films and they have been embracing good content. The industry still has to go a long way because there are hardly any distributors, who willingly come forward to release small films,” begins Ashwin Jerome. The story revolves around five characters, who resemble five elements (Space, air, fire, water, and earth). “Each of these characters will be interconnected and have different traits. The story deals with Laws of Attraction and how rumination can be counter-productive for a human. The villain of the story is a book and there are other elements apart from this fantasy that will keep the audience intrigued for a couple of hours,” says director Balaji.

He adds that he initially had qualms whether the story will resonate with the audience. “However, the psychological element will strike a chord with the audience. The story will not give audience the jitters, it would make them think,” he tells us. Gokul says that he plays a character of a musician named Hayden. “He is the element of fire. He runs his own band and he faces a huge loss personally, which translates into his music. He is the hothead of the group.” Ashwin joins his colleagues and says that the film will talk a lot about mental health. “I play a character called Dharna, who is a rich and spoilt kid. He is talented but he cannot channelise it in the right way. He gets into a situation and that is when he discovers his hidden talent,” adds the actor.

Balaji reveals that he chose to make Pancharaksharam among the 50 scripts he had with him. “He comes up with a new scripts every other day,” says Ashwin, who is Balaji’s long-time friend as well. “We started shooting for the film five months after I started penning the script. I chose Pancharaksharam as it is not clichéd. The story will keep the audience engrossed and make them delve into the script and play the game along with the characters. Moreover, the other scripts I have penned are concept-based stories. Pancharaksharam that will hit the screens on December 27 will be an idea-based story,” he concludes.
