Prabhu to join hands with Mani Ratnam after nine years

A week ago, we reported that veteran actor Sathyaraj opted out of Mani Ratnam’s much-awaited film Ponniyin Selvan, as the makers had apparently asked the actor to dedicate an entire year for the historical flick.

Now, we hear that Mani Ratnam approached his friend Prabhu for the same role and the latter had given him a nod without even listening to the script. A source close to the team says, “Mani Ratnam recently met Prabhu at his residence and discussed the possibilities of working together again for Ponniyin Selvan. Though the actor didn’t sign on any official agreement, he has accepted to be part of the film. He is in talks for the role, which was initially penned for Sathyaraj.” It is worth noting that Prabhu was last seen in Mani Ratnam’s Raavanan, which released in 2010. We also hear from reliable sources that the makers of the film are planning to announce the entire cast and crew officially by the end of this month. Actors like Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Vikram, Jayam Ravi, Mohan Babu and Aditi Rao Hydari have already been finalised for the project and the film is all set to go on floors in December. Ponniyin Selvan has its music by AR Rahman and cinematography by Ravi Varman. Thota Tharani is in charge of the art direction.
