Director of the film, KV Anand, was accused of copying the script of writer John Charles, who had earlier registered a similar script with the Writers’ Union under the title Saravedi.

On Wednesday, the Madras High Court has dismissed the petition filed by John Charles as he failed to submit proper evidences proving that Kaappaan script is plagiarised. The court has now paved, way for the makers to go ahead with the release, which is scheduled on September 20.

Director of the film, Anand said, “I am happy that the court has dismissed the case and has helped us for a smooth release. However, I am disappointed at the allegations as I have registered this story in early 2012. My friend Pattukottai Prabhakaran and I wrote this script together after years of research and have come up with a film like this. It really hurts when people wanted to take credits for something which they were not a part of. I don’t even know who this John Charles is. I have not even communicated with him before. I am planning to file a defamation case against him post the release with proper evidences.” He also added that the film has nothing to do with agriculture or farmer’s issue as John claims it to be. “The story revolves around the lives of security personnelsappointed by Prime Ministers of India for their safety.”

Kaappaan is a political thriller, in which Mohanlal plays the role of a Prime Minister. Arya, Sayyeshaa, Boman Irani and Samuthirakani are also part of this project.
