Super 30 downsized by commercial template - Super 30 review
This movie works mostly on the universal empathy for havenots suffering in the framework made for the haves.
Chennai
The season of biopics never looks like ending. With Super 30 Hrithik roshan recovers from his forgettable outings of recent years. But is the film really that good that it deserves to be, is the question. Answer is, not really.
Biographies that are inspiring readily qualifies for a movie in Bollywood. However, nothing botches up a biopic than dramatisizing it.
Anand Kumar (Hrithik) is a small town math wizard whose poverty screams loud with every next step of his towards improvement. Things are forced to look Bollywood-ish with a usual nameless heroine (Mrunal Thakur) and her done to death Bollywood dad skeptical about love and his daughter's ragamuffin lover.
Songs are speed brakers to the plot which is already obscured by exhaustive villainy and hatching of murder plots. The climax action is innovative and is enjoyable only till you realise you are watching a biopic.
There is a scene where Anand is accused of ill-advancing towards a woman, which I don't think that has anything to do with the real Anand, but just to vent out one's frustration over someone else. The 'Super 30' batch students' performances looked mediocre but compensated in scenes that followed (audience will sense the catching up of these kids). The 'Hichkey' like students' performance would've amped up this movie.
The given of this movie is all the underprivileged children crack IIT entrance but that would've been more convincing if there were more classroom scenes and less commercial compromises.
This movie works mostly on the universal empathy for have-nots suffering in the framework made for the haves. This is what almost makes audience exonerate the gaucheries of this movie. That makes this movie a manageable one-time watch, that gives you an okayish feel walking out of the cinema hall.
Super 30, a not so-super enterprise.
