'Devi 2' Film Review: A sequel that should not have been made
Vijay, Prabhudheva and Tamannaah have come together again for the sequel of their hit horror comedy, Devi (L), which released in 2016.

Given that we have been witnessing a dozen horror genre films in recent times, Vijay’s Devi 2, has nothing new to offer and follows a template that’s done and dusted in Tamil cinema.
While the prequel had a few scenes that allows us to empathise with the central characters, the sequel neither gives chills nor laughter. In the first instalment,Krishna’s (Prabhudheva) wife Devi (Tamannaah) gets possessed by a ghost and the former goes out of his way to save her. Devi 2, too, deals with a similar story. But this time, Krishna gets possessed by two ghosts and Devi deals with it.
The film begins with Krishna and Devi flying down to Mauritius with the intention of leading a peaceful life, following the advice of a priest. The director takes us into the plot wasting no time. Krishna gets possessed by two spirits.
Similar to its prequel, Devi signs a contract with the ghosts and requests them to set her husband free once they are done with their job. The second half is all about how Devi helps these spirits to accomplish their dreams and saves her husband from this complicated situation.
For a film that has two ghosts, Devi 2 is completely devoid of scares. There is not even a single scene that sends some chills down the spine. Vijay clearly tries to play it up with the weirdness in character sketch of the leads but fails miserably. The portion that involves Nandita Sweta and Dimple Hayathi is a huge drawback and doesn’t add any value to the script.. Kovai Sarala’s role is very similar to the one she portrayed in the Kanchana series. RJ Balaji and Sonu Sood’s cameo appearance are the only relief in the film as there is a meaning to their addition. Stars like Prabhudheva and Tamannaah, who have all potential to elevate a simple story, were wasted big time, as even their performances were unimpressive. Overall, Devi 2, is a sequel that shouldn’t have been made.
