‘It was a conscious decision to sign a comedy flick’
Actor Shirish Saravanan’s first look of his upcoming film Pistha was unveiled on Thursday midnight, on the occasion of his birthday by composer Yuvan Shankar Raja.
Chennai
“I couldn’t have asked for anything more than Yuvan unveiling the first look of my third film on my birthday,” Shirish told DTNext. The poster is a depiction of a wedding scene with actor Namo Narayana playing the groom while Shirish and Sathish are seen kidnapping the bride (Arundhathi Nair) as Senthil and Yogi Babu watch on.
“The story revolves around a wedding including Mrudula Murali, who plays another heroine. However, it is not only about it. I would call Pistha a comedy of errors. We shot for the film across Chennai and Kumbakkonam. There are many other characters, who will carry the story forward,” he said with a visible excitement in his tone. His first two films Metro and Raja Ranguski were thrillers and were commercial successes at the box-office.
Talking about moving away from the genre, he said, “Obviously it was a conscious decision from me to try a different genre. I didn’t want to be stereotyped by doing thrillers. I thought this is the right time for me to explore and venture into other genres.”
With only three films in three years, the actor said that he is not in a rush. “I like to take it one at a time, which I believe is a wise but difficult decision. I want to focus on one film at a time and give my best rather than taking pride in shooting for three films a day, round-the-clock. In fact, I have said ‘no’ to some good scripts because of this.” he said. Shirish though doesn’t want to divulge about his next film, he concluded saying, “It will not be like my first three films.”
