Talking to DT Next, the director of the film Rajavel Krishnaa said, “The film revolves around a group of adolescents, who go against their parents will and commit mistakes. They go through a lot of struggles after they leave their home and by the time they realisetheir mistakes, precious things are lost from their lives. Pizhai isn’t narrated only from the kids’ perspective. It is also about the mistakes parents commit in forcing those kids tomake drastic decisions.” He also clarified that the title doesn’t have a negative connotation.

“Though it is titled Pizhai, it is about rectifying them and not committing it. I don’t think any other title would have done justice to the story. When I told my producer R Damodharan about the title, he agreed with me.”

Veteran actor Charle, Mime Gopi and George play the parents to Kakka Muttai Ramesh, Appa Nasath and Gokul. “The film will take the kids of 90s and 80s to a walk down the memory lane. Children from the current generation, who watch the film will realise how they are usurped into the virtual world and are depriving themselves of a few things that kids of previous generation cherish upon. The film will impart values and create an impact to both parents and children, who watch it,” added Rajavel. The film isextensively shot in locations like Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri and Chitoor among others.

“The film has a rural backdrop and the story travels across different towns and cities in Tamil Nadu. Pizhai isn’t a period film, it is set in the present-day backdrop. We had planned to release the film next week. However, due to screen constraint, we have pushed the release to June as of now.”
