VOC Port handles a ship with 14 m draft, sets record

The Thoothukudi based VO. Chidambaranar Port, for the first time in Port’s history handled a vessel with 14 metre draft on Monday.
The vessel ‘MV Zheng Jun’ was docked at the North Cargo Berth-I at 4 p.m. The Panama flagged vessel ‘MV Zheng Jun’ with a length of 229 metres and beam of 32.26 metres arrived from the Port of Samarinda, Indonesia hauling 74,962 tonnes of coal for Neyveli Thermal Power Limited (NTPL).The agent for the vessel is GAC Shipping (India), private limited, Thoothukudi.
Captain J. Kingston Neel Durai, pilot and Captain N. Venkatesh, another pilot under the guidance of Captain Bhabatosh Chand, Deputy Conservator guided the ship safely to the berth.
Earlier on June 20, the Port handled ‘MV Dionysus’, a vessel with a draft of 13.20 metres that discharged 60,500 tonnes of rock phosphate for Greenstar Fertilizers Limited, Thoothukudi.
