Mobile maker’s market share in TN is 7.5 per cent

Mobile maker Lava International has a strong retail base in Tamil Nadu, with the state contributing 7.5 per cent of its market share in value terms. The company crossed the $1bn revenue mark in FY’16 and last year too, it managed a gross revenue of over Rs 6,000 crore, despite the industry severely impacted by the effects of demonetisation – a top official said.

Vikas Punia, National Sales Head, Lava International, said “TN is a very important market for Lava and has shown a consistent growth YoY. The brand has gained continuous support from the consumers throughout the year thus helping us secure around 11% (general trade) market share in the state in FY 17-18.” Of the 200-plus distributors in south, TN has 60 of them. Also, the state has around 8,000 out of 22,500 retail base. 

The state also has 55 of the 200 service centres in the country that service the indigenously designed prime model. This model has done well in TN, as the re gion has sold 24,000 units of the 74,000 units in south, the official said. He and Gaurav Nigam, Product Head, Lava International, were in the city to launch Lava Z61, which banks on ‘sharp click’ technology to drive sales. It has grown multi-fold over the years and has shown a topline and bottom-line growth of over 90% CAGR since inception, Punia said, claiming to be among the fastest growing Indian smartphone firm globally. In the last five years, it has sold over 108 mn mobile handsets.
