Tamil Nadu ready to roll out new pharma policy

The small and medium pharma units in TN will get maximum support from the state in the form of working capital term loans (WCTL), 24-hr electricity supply and free land with water sources as long as they join hands to step up the pharma production, said K Gnanadesikan, Addl Chief Secretary in charge of Industry department.

Although TN is fifth in domestic pharma manufacturing, the state’s full potential is still not utilised. Government is ready to provide more support and structured packages for the sector’s growth and development.

The state is competing with Telangana, Maharashtra, Gujarat and Karnataka in drug production, he said, in his inaugural address at the Pharmac South trade fair 2018 here.

Similarly, he said, the government is also ready to put in all efforts to frame one Pharmaceutical Industry Policy for the state on the lines of the Biotechnology Industry Policy adopted by the government. But to realise it, the pharma entrepreneurs must come together under one roof and approach the government.

If a demand for a pharma project or policy is made collectively by all the manufacturing units, it can be taken up with the chief secretary for discussion, he said.
