Education start-up to bridge rural urban gap
To address the shortage of 1.2 million teachers in India, where 69% lives in rural areas, Bengaluru-based eVidyaloka kicked off its operations seven years ago – leveraging digital technology to impart education to rural India.

Starting with a school near Tiruchy, today the not-for-profit enterprise reaches out to 8,500 plus children across 137-village schools in 7 states. On Friday, Rubaru – a Rural-Urban connect initiative, supported by LTI (L&T group co) saw the convergence of stakeholders like corporates, educationists and students.
The event was inaugurated by V Krishnamoorty, former Dy Director, BITS Pilani. Panelists included GK Pillai, Fmr Home & Finance Secretary; Shekhar Kirani of Accel Partners; Ruby Chhabra from LTI; Shalini Pillay of KPMG, Raghavendra L of Infosys BPM and Jacob Ninan from Axis Bank Foundation. Winning teams in a national student innovation challenge included members of Panchayat Union Middle School, Tiruchy (Clean water and sanitation project), Panchayat Union Middle School Semmambadi, Tiruvannamalai (Zero Hunger).
