With a net customer base of 1.3 million paying users, Tally is now banking on Cloud technology for the next leap ahead. The firm recently launched its new GST ready suite, Tally.ERP 9 Release 6.2 to provide a solution for filing GSTR 2 returns, the last date for which is October 31.
Tejas Goenka, Executive Director, Tally Solutions (P) Ltd tells us, “In Tamil Nadu, a lot of textile and export centric SMEs had gone into panic mode post the GST announcement. Many of them need help to enter the GST net. We are spending a lot of time working on solutions to make that happen. We have a network spanning 25,000 partners across India.
We have also started focusing more on connected services within the product portfolio. So, the licensed versions offer more value to the users. Close to 80 per cent of our customers are already on board the latest release of Tally.”
Speaking about the business, he says, “We have been around since 1986. We started off as a true-blue, garage-based start-up and we used to own a textile factory, which got burnt down. My father Bharat Goenka, the MD, went on to cofound this new company and came up with a ‘true product’ launch through Tally.
One of our most significant achievements in the last three decades has been that 80 to 90 per cent of the SMEs in India that have a computerised accounting system use Tally. Not all of them have paid us.
But, close to 1.3 million customers use licensed, paid-for versions of the software. It’s the third largest software globally, if you look at a license based vendor of accounting programmes in this specific segment i.e. SMEs.”
