CEOs run to keep kids in good stead
United Way Chennai and UNICEF on Sunday organised the 2nd edition of the annual CEO Run in their effort to encourage CEOs of leading companies to run for a social cause. The run was aimed at generating awareness towards the need for holistic development of children while safeguarding their rights. A unique aspect of the event was that the participants commit to taking action towards the cause.

The day began with a warmup session followed by a team of Zumba specialists energising the crowd and the runners. The first component of the event was a 400 metre run. The next components included a 4x100 relay, 100m sprint, tug-of-war and a couples run. The final run saw every participating CEO display their commitment to reach out to the last mile for every child.Â
Captain DP Ramachandran, a 1971 War Veteran declared the games open and Jayasankar Menon, Former basketball captain for India closed the games.Â
Among the various runners were Lakshmi Narayanan and Sanjeev Jain of Cognizant Technology Solutions, Murugavel Janakiraman of matrimony.com, Raju Venkatraman of Medall Healthcare, Media firm owner Aruna Krishnan and GRK Reddy. Narayanan led the way by taking the first pledge towards Child Development and donating Rs 1 lakh.
Identifying themselves as Change Enabling Officers, the race day saw the CEOs compete in a test of fitness to promote the need for healthy and fit lifestyles. National Archery champ Anoop Skandha led his team of CEOs to win the Unicef CEO Run Champions 2017 title. Among the other child protégées was 15-year-old Sabri Venkat, a visually challenged motivational speaker from Coimbatore.
