Industry leaders from Coimbatore to meet Chief Minister on June 2
Representatives of various industrial bodies here will meet Chief Minister Edappadi K Palanisamy at Chennai on June 2 to discuss the impact of GST across industries besides the projects needed for the development of the textile city.

Prior to this, on June 1, they are to meet Finance Minister D Jayakumar, said minister for Municipal Administration and Rural Development SP Velumani, who chaired a meeting with representatives of 54 industrial bodies here on Saturday. To a question on the closure of shops by traders on May 30, against GST, he said it was not targeting TN and that the traders here have responded to the nationwide call to oppose the revised tax rates in GST.
While he conceded that taking part in the proposed protest is their right, he said the state is parallelly studying the impact of GST to prepare itself to take up the matter with the Centre.Â
Velumani also said the meet with TN CM would include discussions on the expansion of the Coimbatore international airport. To de-congest the city, the state has plans to initiate metro rail project in the next financial year. A study to know the possible routes for the project is on the anvil.
