IT Co offers Class 12 passouts 'assured' job
Leveraging the demographic dividend in rural India, this programme contributes to the Skill India mission.
Chennai
IT major HCL has introduced TechBee Early Career Training Program for students who have completed Class 12. The initiative is being pitched as a disruptor in the IT industry and education space as it aims to provide software engineering jobs to bright students, equipping them with future ready skills.
Srimathi Shivashankar, Vice President - HCL Technologies tells us, “The first batch of the programme was launched in Madurai (with 25 students) and Lucknow (with 85 students) last month. We are looking forward to work with local schools across Chennai and Tamil Nadu. It’s not just a module aimed at training but providing these students with an assured job in our company. We have understood the kind of jobs students in Class 12 can do. It’s certainly not inclusive of BPO jobs. The focus is on IT services space, including application development, testing, new digital, IoT and gaming.”
She adds, “The target for this year is to on-board at least 500 students. The idea is to help these students start their careers early. In the West, it’s commonplace to finish school, take up a job, gain experience and then opt for higher education. The training period is one year, during which the students earn a monthly stipend. Post the training, they can get into a job in one of the two locations we have – Chennai or Madurai. The company later helps them take up graduation as well.
Leveraging the demographic dividend in rural India, this programme contributes to the Skill India mission.
The programme would provide a combination of academic training for nine months and on-the-job training for three months making the students self-reliant. The company hopes this will add on to the talent pool to cater to current and potential clients.
