Tapping the market for kiosks, kitchen tops
Mukunda Foods, a start-up that is the brainchild of two SRM University graduates, and is the company behind Dosamatic, a countertop dosa maker has now embarked on its next phase of expansion.
Chennai
The kitchen robotics company has come up with a new business model named DosaKart. It is aimed at helping aspiring entrepreneurs set up food kiosks at a nominal budget to help them get a foothold in the hospitality industry.
Giving us a lowdown on how the new model works, Eshwar Vikas, the CEO, of the company, says, “We came across many entrepreneurs who wanted to make it big in the food industry. So we decided to offer them a holistic solution – to provide them with the dosa maker, the kiosk and the raw materials, sticking to our chef-free and kitchen free concept. Now, they can set up their own food joints and take their business to the next level. Our team has already helped set up 12 kiosks across India. We are targeting about 25 outlets by the end of the next quarter and nearly 75 outlets by the end of the year.”
Eshwar, who works out of Bengaluru, goes on to tell us, “The cost of setting up a kiosk runs to Rs 2.75 lakh, which is inclusive of the marketing and training provided by us. Those who have taken on the kiosks have reported earnings of anywhere between Rs 50,000 to Rs 2.5 lakh per month, depending on various factors.” The team has seen an encouraging response from Tier 2 cities as well, such as Raipur, where entrepreneurs have set up a food kiosk, under the guidance of Eshwar’s staff.
But that’s not all. The company is also planning to bring its flagship product to the household market as well. Eshwar explains, “We conducted a pilot sale of the eCooK for a select set of buyers, (inspired by the Dosamatic), which is aimed at the home users. It can help you makes dosas, roti, pancakes and omelettes. We plan to start retailing from March onwards and have tied up with Amazon Launchpad for the same. The number of units planned for the first quarter is 3,500 and we plan the roll-out for only for South India for the first two quarters. The tentative price is between Rs 18,000 to Rs 20,000.” The company has also introduced a new industry-scale automated roti maker, which they hope will find great traction in the coming months.
