IN PICS | Chintadripet’s century-old library gets a new makeover

Goschen Library was founded in 1926 in Chintadripet.

Its foundation stone was laid on January 23, 1926.

The library is named after Lady Goschen, wife of then Governor Viscount Goschen.

It was renovated this year at a cost of Rs 2.36 crore.

The heritage building retains its neo-classical facade and teak features.

It houses around 18,000 books, mainly in Tamil.

The library has separate sections for women, children and general reading.

More than 60 journals are available for readers in the library.

The renovated Goschen library offers computers and high-speed Wi-Fi.

A conference hall with 80+ seats and an 83-inch TV has been added.
