CHENNAI: The Madras High Court on Friday refused to stay the summons issued by the Economic Offences Wing to film producer RK Suresh asking him to appear before it in connection with the Rs 2,400 crore Aarudhra gold scam. The court also asked the police to respond to his petition seeking a direction to quash the summons.

The Economic Offences Wing of the State police, which is handling the multi-crore investment scam had summoned Suresh, a film producer and the vice president of BJP’s State OBC wing, to appear in person. Opposing this, Suresh moved the High Court seeking to quash the summons.

When the plea came up for hearing before Justice G Chandrasekharan, senior counsel Raghavachari representing Suresh contended that the plaintiff has been accused in the matter as a political vendetta and that he had nothing to do with the Aarudhra scam.

Taking note of the submission, the judge said he was inclined to cancel the summon as there were no details like what kind of documents that need to be produced when the plaintiff appeared. He added that if required, the EOW should send a fresh summon with the necessary details.

Advocate Santhosh representing the EOW requested the court against quashing the summon and sought time to submit an explanation regarding the summon that was sent. Accepting this, the court refused to stay the summon and directed the EOW to respond to the petition and adjourned the hearing to April 28.
