CM Stalin: Delta will be back to normal in 5 days

Due to the heavy rainfall owing to the North East monsoon many districts in Delta region, especially Mayiladuthurai, were severely affected and thousands of acres of paddy fields were submerged.

Chief Minister MK Stalin visited flood affected Cuddalore and Mayiladuthurai district

TIRUCHY: Chief Minister MK Stalin inspected the flood-affected areas in Cuddalore and Mayiladuthurai district on Monday and distributed relief materials to the people accommodated in relief camps and promised to restore normalcy within five days.

Heavy rains lashed most of the areas in Delta districts and the whole of Mayiladuthurai district was devstated. Paddy crop in several thousands of acres were submerged. Following this the Chief Minister to console the flood affected people and to expedite the flood relief works undertook a field inspection in Cuddalore and Mayiladuthurai district.

Stalin, during his visit to Sirkazhi met the people accommodated in the relief camp at Government aided Primary School at Pachaiperumanallur and distributed food items. As many as 58 relief camps were established in Mayiladuthurai in which 32,972 persons from 13,307 families have been lodged. He distributed biscuits and milk to the children staying in the camps. This apart, 68 mobile medical camps were also opened. The Chief Minister inspected the food prepared at the camp at Government Aided Primary School at Pachaiperuma Nallur in Sirkazhi and directed the officials to ensure quality.

Subsequently, he inquired about the medical treatment at the camp. According to officials, as many as 125 inpatients and 60 outpatients were under treatment in the medical camp.

Later, Stalin visited the Umayalpathi village where 221 ha paddy submerged in the rains. During his interaction with farmers, he promised that proper compensation for both house damage would be disbursed soon. He assured them that normalcy would be restored in the region shortly.

He also reviewed the works undertaken by various department. Meanwhile, as many as 63 electric posts and 2,593 transformers have been repaired and power supply has been restored to 2,06,141 connections out of the total of 2,06,521 damaged in the rains.

“In order to take stock of the situation, ministers V Senthil Balaji, Siva V Meyyanathan and S Ragupathy were deputed on Sunday to affected pockets. There are a few problems which will be rectified within five days,” Stalin said.
