Transport official who amassed Rs 2 cr worth assets under DVAC scanner

CHENNAI: A deputy transport commissioner in Tiruchy and his wife were booked by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption for allegedly amassing disproportionate assets worth over Rs 2 crore while working as RTO during the period from the year 2010 to 2016.

The DVAC has booked as N Azhagarasu, (56), formerly Regional Transport Officer, Tiruvannamalai, and his wife S Rani, (52) under the provisions of Prevention of Corruption Act.

Azhagarasu worked as Regional Transport Officer, Tiruvannamalai during the period from June 2009 to September 2011, in Nagercoil during April 2012 and July 2012, in Tindivanam, Villupuram during July 2012 and October 2014 and again in Tiruvannamalai during the period from October 2014 to January 2018 while committing the offence.

The couple has two daughters and one son, who all are doctors with MBBS degree. Their elder daughter has completed her master's Degree in Medicine.

“Most of the acquisitive activities of the couple allegedly happened between the year 2010 and 2016 and hence tentative check period was fixed accordingly. In the start of the check period the two were in possession of assets worth Rs.94.80 lakh,” DVAC noted.

Assets found in the name of A-1 and his family members in form of house sites, agriculture land, house buildings, motor car and fixed deposit in banks etc., at the end of the check period was estimated to be Rs 4.61 crore.

After adjusting the genuine income, expenses and possible saving the DVAC pegged the disproportionate income around Rs 2.02 crore. Based on the finding, the DVAC Thiruvannamalai unit has slapped a cased against the couple.
