TIRUVALLUR: Several patrons using the rail services at Tiruvallur have requested the state government to speed up the completion of the subway that has been moving at a snail’s pace for more than two years.

Over 5,000 people use the train services from Tiruvallur railway station to travel towards Chennai, Arakkonam and Tirutani on a daily basis. However, since there has been no subway for the travellers to cross over to the other side of the station, several people recklessly run across the tracks to cross over.

Members of the public claimed that this has resulted in loss of lives and disabilities after people were hit by trains. Owing to this, after many requests the government announced that a subway would be built for safe crossing of passengers. However, even after two years, the construction of the subway is still moving at snail’s pace and the public claim that it does not have basic facilities like a ramp for disabled people and also lacks a proper rainwater drainage system.

Following this, the public has requested the state government to expedite the construction of the subway to prevent people from running across the tracks.
