SCERT to enhance research to improve effectiveness of education

According to the SCERT official, both SCERT and other related authorities in this regard will undertake action research studies to help resolve potential problems with regard to school education.

CHENNAI: As the industrial requirements for students has increased based on improved technology, the Tamil Nadu State Council for Educational Research and Training (SCERT), a wing of the School Education Department, has decided to enhance its research activities.

A senior official from the SCERT said that research projects and action research studies are important tools for academic interventions to resolve potential issues in teaching and learning processes, besides assessment.

“In addition, it has to be monitored that the effectiveness of school textbooks, the impact of Kalvi TV videos, the impact of learning through online portals are more useful for the students,” he said adding that therefore, it has been decided to enhance the research activities in this regard.”

Stating that SCERT has also planned to constantly encourage and motivate teacher educators and teachers to undertake education research based on their inputs through school visits, classroom observation and training performances, he said, “besides all this, qualitative research studies are to be undertaken by the academic personnel of SCERT and among other officials concerned.”

According to the SCERT official, both SCERT and other related authorities in this regard will undertake action research studies to help resolve potential problems with regard to school education.

“In 2021-2022, a total of 369 action research studies and 159 research studies have been undertaken by the SCERT and its related members,” he said adding “the findings of research studies are disseminated through seminars and teacher training programmes.”

The official said that the government has made a budgetary allocation of Rs 105.56 crore for SCERT activities.
