Several parts of TN to receive heavy rainfall in next 48 hours

CHENNAI: The regional meteorological centre on Thursday stated that moderate to heavy rainfall is expected in several parts of Tamil Nadu, with an isolated thunderstorm and lightning for the next 2-3 days.

Meanwhile, Kancheepuram and Ranipet received 7 cm, which is the highest rainfall in the State, until Thursday morning. Among other districts, Tiruvannamalai and Nagapattinam received 6 cm of rainfall, while Vellore, Salem, Chengalpattu, Villupuram, Dharmapuri and Kancheepuram received 6 cm of rainfall.

For the next 48 hours, heavy rain is likely to occur at isolated places over Ariyalur, Cuddalore, Kancheepuram, Perambalur, Tiruvallur, Tiruvannamalai, Vellore, Villupuram, Kallakuruchi, Tirupattur, Ranipet and Mayiladuthurai can receive heavy rains on Friday.

An upper air circulation is expected to form from October 9th, which will bring heavy widespread rains to Chennai and neighbouring districts. Apart from these districts, Pudukkottai, Salem, Tiruchy, Dharmapuri, Nagapattinam, Perambalur, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Krishnagiri, Kallakurichi and Chengalpattu can receive heavy rains in the following days.

Weather blogger Pradeep John stated that the weather pattern is likely to be active for the next five days starting Thursday. “Chennai is to get rain from Thursday evening to Friday morning. Due to the upper air circulation expected later, the rains can intensify in the Kancheepuram-Thiruvallur-Chennai-Chengalpattu belt after two days,” he wrote.
