CHENNAI: In a second incident in two days, a conman posing as an official with the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) conducted searches in the house of a government employee in Alandur. Earlier, a conman had pulled off a similar act in Koyambedu.

Police said that the conman, who came in a car, went to the office of an engineer with water resources department in Taramani on Saturday and claimed to be an inspector with DVAC. When the official told him that he was clean, the conman insisted on searching his premises and then took him to his home in Saidapet.

Suspicious over his activities, the government official enquired with the police after which the conman abandoned him midway.

Based on his complaint, Taramani police have registered a case and are investigating.

On Friday, the conman had conducted searches at the residence of an official with CMDA.

According to police sources, he had called the assistant of an engineer with CMDA and claimed to be an Inspector with DVAC.

When the engineer allowed the conman to search his office, he told him that a team is waiting at his residence and asked him to take him to his office. However, there was no one there and despite this, the conman conducted searches alone and got himself dropped at Koyambedu in the engineer’s car.

Police sources said that no documents or property were ‘seized’ by the conman and suspect it to be a money making operation by targeting government officials.
