MADURAI: During the last ten years under the AIADMK regime, its government performed shabbily as there were financial irregularities in some of the schemes implemented.

“Loans amounting beyond Rs15,000 crore were wrongfully waived off during the previous regime. Now, it’s our government’s duty to take appropriate corrective measures and fix all their flaws. ‘If not corrected, we (state government) are doing social injustice and it will go against our basic principle’,” PTR Palanivel Thiaga Rajan, Minister for Finance and Human Resources Management, said while addressing a programme in Madurai on Saturday.

When the DMK came to power in 2021, two welfare schemes providing freebies including waiver of crop loans and jewel loans were successfully implemented among others. While the crop loan waiver scheme remained pending since the erstwhile AIADMK regime, the DMK led government rolled out the scheme. However, large-scale irregularities occurred under these schemes during the previous government.
