CHENNAI: Following nod to reopen the Kaniyamoor school in Chinna Salem, which was the hotbed of violence after a 17-year-old student died under suspicious circumstances, parents and students demand fresh certificates.

District Collector Shravan Kumar Jadavath issued orders and permitted for renovation works inside the school, which was vandalised by angered protesters following the suspicious death of the girl. The school remained shut for 67 days after the violence.

On July 13, a Class 12 student, was found dead at the school premises late at night. The alleged apathy of the school management irated protestors, who took to violence on July 17. Protestors involved in arson, torched buildings and vans.

Despite the school remained shut ever since, alternative arrangements were made to bridge the academic gap the students were about to face.

Demands to issue fresh certificates gained strength after the announcement to reopen and renovate the school was made.
