CHENNAI: Chief Minister M K Stalin on Monday said that the Opposition parties are trying to defame the ruling DMK government, but people are well aware about the nature of the previous government.

"Opposition parties who were in power for 10 years did not care about people and people who spoke pointed out at how worse the previous rule was. People in the opposition parties through unconfirmed stories are trying to defame the ruling government. Are people not aware of the genuineness of the slogans raised by the opposition parties or do people not understand their nature," said Stalin, while delivering his address at the fourth state conference of Tamil Nadu Association for the Rights of All Types of Differently-abled and Caregivers (TARATDAC), in Chennai.

Stalin also recalled the welfare measures implemented by the ruling DMK government and said that so far welfare measures worth Rs 759 crore were implemented for differently-abled persons.

"DMK, whether in Opposition or treasury, will be closely working for the welfare of the differently-abled persons. It was the DMK government that treats differently-abled persons with self-respect and it was former Chief Minister M Karunanidhi who gave the name differently-abled because people who lost a feature have developed another feature and are talented. Because the differently-abled department is so close to me I have retained the department with me,” said Stalin, who also honoured the social activists who worked for the welfare of differently-abled persons.
