MADURAI: The much-awaited stadium to facilitate spectators to witness Jallikattu, the bull taming sport, near Alanganallur in Madurai district, will be set up within 2024, PWD Minister EV Velu said on Sunday after inspecting the site for establishing the facility at Keelakarai village.

After inspecting the site, Velu said Chief Minister MK Stalin during the assembly session had already announced the creation of a spectacular stadium for Jallikattu at Alanganallur.

While two locations were identified to set up the facility, the Chief Minister wanted the stadium to come up close to the Jallikattu arena. Of the 66 acres of poramboke land available at Keelakarai village, the first phase of the stadium would be constructed on 16 acres of land. The government would keenly follow the guidelines and get all clearances required from authorities before taking up the project.

Works would be taken up soon after getting a nod from the CM, who instructed to complete the project by 2024. Initially, soil tests would be conducted and levelled before raising a compound wall. The yet-to-be-constructed stadium would be connected to Vadipatti-Chittampatti four lane, he said.

Minister for Commercial Taxes and Registration P Moorthy, Madurai Collector S Aneesh Sekhar and DRO R Sakthivel were present during the inspection.
